I am reviewing Ab Wilkinson's' blog about Falconry, it is titled "Of Wings and Talons," and can be viewed at http://ofwingsandtalons.blogspot.com/. All in all, I believe that this is an amazing blog, because it is about his own Falconry adventures. Even thought it only has three blog post, it is still an amazing blog, due to the fact that one blog post is about that whole Falconry season. I also like this blog because of the variety of pictures that are on it, and they are not just pictures of his hawk either, which is named Rebel by the way. He has pictures of his family, also hunting with their raptors. But sadly, I don't think this guy does Falconry anymore, there has not been a post from this blog since 2012. And to further the cause, his last post was about releasing Rebel into the wild. It is actually a good and interesting read, he might over exaggerate a lot. Honestly, I think it was a good thing that he did. You can obviously tell that he was not dedicated fully to his hawk. This cannot be taken as just a hobby, Falconry is a full-fledged lifestyle, and even at the top of his page he has a quote by, T.H. White. The quote is, "Falconry is not a hobby or an amusement: it is a rage. You eat and drink it, sleep it and think it. You tremble to write of it, even in recollection. It is, as King James the First remarked, an extreme stirrer of passions." Now I know that I could keep going on and on about how this guy wasn't dedicated. But I could tell that he was very intrigued by this lifestyle, he just couldn't care for Rebel 24/7. But besides that I thought it was a really good blog.... Back in the day.

The Summer of the Falcon,
In this book there is a little bit of everything, from good old fashioned family time,to a huge plot twist. For people that love the outdoors, and people that love a little bit of drama, I highly recommend this book. During June in the Summer, Pritchard 13 year old life, she was given a Sparrow Hawk from her family. Which are bigger than the what you think, If you want to see them click here, http://www.desertusa.com/birds/sparrow-hawk.html. She was given this bird, almost like if a parent was to give you a animal to learn about. To learn how to take care of another life, and she was really good at it. For the next three summers her and her hawk Zander grow up and develop, She teaches her hawk to hunt insects for food. But she comes to realize that she is given more responsibilities as she is growing up. She then finds out about herself that she wants freedom for her and her Falcon more than anything, but she then realizes that freedom without self discipline means almost nothing. Even though the book was published in 1979 I still believe that it is a good book, usually I am the type of person that is all about the new, but I am a huge fan of this book. It is also perfect for the time, because back in the late 60-70's it was a popular demand to catch a wild winged-predator and keep it as a pet. But, at the same time I am happy movie makers aren't doing anything to this book. For example, you'll see movie makers make movies out of old books. But in today's society I don't this another movie or book of this nature would not be a good fit. To be fully honest, it was very hard to stay hooked on this book at sometimes. It was just a challenge to find a book about Falconry. In a final say about the book, I think it is a one of a kind book, that will probably never have any competition. So, for a rating out of 10, I would have to give a solid 6.5. Could be a lot worse, but then again it has a slight chance to be better.
I am responding to Falling Hawks video on his Peruvian Harris Hawk hunting and got a rabbit. When you see the video you have to realize that even in the wild, these animals are on the food chain. So, when this hawk goes and gets the rabbit, you probably should remember it is only nature. You may also need to realize this is what Falconry is, and this is what this activity is made for. So, I believe that this video is amazing, even though it takes two tries to get his raptors prey. But, I have a feeling that this guy was in a secret spot, because he was right in the middle of the city in a park. Nobody else was near him, and he had multiple rabbits at once.
The one thing that I am disappointed with is with the Website that this video is posted to. Go ahead, click the word "Website," as I wait...Yeah, exactly it does not work. I found out that it only works if you are at home or somewhere away from Fortuna High. But, besides that I believe that it is an exceptional video. Even though it is his second try posting it, but the only difference I see in the two videos, is the quality. I think the second post of the video it looks more HD when it comes to quality. Now when it comes to his Peruvian Harris Hawk Falcon, I think it is a beautiful bird. Easily a close second, maybe almost topping the Golden Eagle. But remember that I am not a Falconer, I am just judging on appearance and video that I have found on the internet. All in all, I think it is an amazing video and I want to see more from his channel in the future, if you want to check out his channel please click on his website, at the top of the screen.
